Aromatherapy

Aromatherapy according to expert Jade Shutes, “is the wholistic therapeutic application of genuine and authentic plant-derived Essential Oils (distilled concentrated forms of natural plant matter) for the purpose of enhancing physical, emotional, mental and spiritual health.” A trained Aromatherapist learns how to mix and administer these healing concentrations. For example, some Essential Oils (EO), such as Ginger, work fastest when applied and absorbed through the skin. Other EO, like Lavender, move quickly into our circulatory system when inhaled or applied and, for some, provide calming benefits similar to prescribed anti-anxiety medications.

Almost all EO can be inhaled and applied for a variety of therapeutic uses. It is the complex mixture of the natural odor compounds in the distilled EOs, including benzenoids, phenylpropanoids, monoterpenoids, and sesquiterpenoids, that have commanded the attention of scientists, doctors and therapists when it comes to safe natural alternative therapies. This is because of their ability to provide antibacterial, anti fungal, anti viral, anti inflammatory, anti oxidant benefits and cancer preventing/reducing possibilities, without using synthetic materials, which may be less desirable (in some cases less safe).

At Amethyst House LLC, we use Aromatherapy as part of our integrated approach to natural healing, which includes stimulating the body’s natural pharmacy and realigning mind-body-spirit connection. This helps clients reconnect to a sense of wellbeing, a state of relaxation (meant to be natural to all humans), and how to use these EO as preventative and maintenance strategies when it comes to optimal health. Aromatherapy, when paired with other healing integrations, provides excellent alternative solutions for mental and physical health. Learn more by visiting our website. ▪️

Empower Your Nervous System

Four Essential Oils that Relax You Quickly:

Lavender contains compounds like linalool and linalyl acetate that have a soothing effect on the nervous system. These compounds interact with neurotransmitters in the brain to regulate mood and emotions, helping to reduce feelings of stress.

Clary Sage this herb’s calming properties have been linked to a chemical called sclareol. This substance calms the amygdala which in turn lowers blood pressure, reduces feelings of stress and relaxes the nervous system.

Vetiver this profoundly calming oil includes α-Vetivone, b-Vetivone, and Khusinol. These ingredients are known to balance and preserve emotional well-being while enhancing concentration. Vetiver’s relaxing effect has the added benefits of enhancing sensual moods and promoting restful sleep.

Roman Chamomile is a natural sedative which contains terpenoids, flavonoids, and lactones, including matricin and apigenin. These create sedative effects when inhaled or consumed because apigenin receptors are responsible for fast inhibition which determines neuronal response properties in the human brain.

*Other EOs that aid the nervous system include Ylang Ylang, Frankinsense, Cedar, Bergamot, Lemongrass, Neroli, Rose, Sandalwood and Patchouli.*

Inhale Soothing Aromas or Apply using Reflexology Points…

EOs that are used on the skin should be properly diluted in a carrier oil at 7% solution or less to be best tolerated by the skin and body. To sooth the nervous system, inhale the aroma or apply the chosen oil at the “Heavens Pillar” (the acupressure point associated with the top of the Vagus Nerve in the above chart). You can also apply blended oils to reflexology points that suit the place where healing is needed.
